The Patanela Bluff is a striking cliff in the southeast of the island Heard in the southern Indian Ocean . It looms over the Winston Lagoon and Capsize Beach .
The cliff is named after the schooner Patanela , ship of the South Indian Ocean Expedition to Heard Island (SIOEHI, 1964–1965), which made the first ascent of Mawson Peak .
