Patent blue dyes
Patent blue dyes are acid dyes from the group of triphenylmethane dyes . There are dyes with a moderate to good alkali - and lightfastness that the dyeing and printing of wool and silk are used and also for non-textile use.
The common structural element of the patent blue dyes is a sulfonic acid group in the ortho position to the methine group , which gives them good alkali fastness. The first dye of this type was Patent Blue V , which was developed by Meister Lucius & Brüning , later Hoechst AG, in 1888 .
