Paterno iam diu

With the encyclical Paterno iam diu of November 24, 1919, Pope Benedict XV. the plight of innocent children, which is clearly visible in Central Europe. The Pope regards it as his great fatherly duty to help these children. He thanks the bishops of the United States of America for responding generously to his letter. He orders for the coming December 28th that all confreres should hold public prayers and an offering for the children on that day . This collection does not only have to be of a financial nature, it can also be helped with food, clothing and medicine. As an example, he announces that he personally provides 100,000 lire for the poor children, he calls on his confreres, all clergy and the peoples to support.
