The encyclical Quod iam diu (Latin: "What has been for a long time" ) was written by Pope Benedict XV. published on 1 December 1918 and was the occasion of the completion of the First World War written. It bears the subtitle: "On the upcoming peace conference ".

short version

For a long time one had to wait and pray for the end of the atrocities, writes the Pope, and further: Although the end of the war had not yet led to great peace, the end of the war, which had been longed for by passionate prayers, is now reached. There could be various reasons why this terrible war was started at all, but now thank the Lord for this blessing . The delegates of the various nations would now come together for a first congress to give the world a just and lasting peace . No human congregation has hitherto taken on such a great and great responsibility.

All Catholics are called upon to attend this peace conference with prayer and devotion so that the decisions still to be made can be fulfilled by the Holy Spirit .
