After completing school at Escuela Nº 37 Barón de Río Branco , she moved to the Uruguayan capital in 1985, where she began her medical training. Two years later she began studying speech therapy at the ETM and finally returned to her hometown in 1989. From then on she was the first speech therapist in the Department of Artigas to be a pioneer in this field.

Political career

Since 1989, the year it was founded, it has been part of the Movimiento de Participación Popular , and at the same time represents the Frente Amplio . In the local elections in 2005 she ran for the office of deputy at the departamental level. After the election, which was successful for her, she then moved into the Junta Departamental as the first female Edil of the Frente Amplio . Four years later, in the 2009 parliamentary elections , she was again the first woman to be elected to the Uruguayan Chamber of Deputies for the Artigas Department . In the local elections on May 9, 2010 , she was then elected Intendente of the Artigas Department . Once again, she played a pioneering role - now even in two ways - because this was not just the first success of a candidate from the Frente Amplio in an Intendente election in this department. In fact, since then she has also been the first woman to hold this leading position in the history of the Artigas Department.
