Patricius Schlager

Patricius Schlager OFM (born May 7, 1864 in Nonnenweier as Heinrich Schlager ; † February 17, 1930 in Garnstock (Belgium) ) was a German Franciscan and historian.

Life

Heinrich Schlager studied history and classical philology. In 1889 he converted from Protestantism to the Roman Catholic Church and became a member of the Saxon Franciscan Province ( Saxonia ); he got the religious name Patricius . He was ordained a priest in 1895. From 1896 he worked as a teacher at the “Seraphic College” of Saxonia in Harreveld near Winterswijk ( Netherlands ), which was relocated to Vlodrop in 1909 as the St. Ludwig College . From 1925 he worked at the College of the South Brazilian Franciscans in Eupen -Garnstock, which was founded in 1924. They wanted to use this training facility to attract young people for the mission in Brazil.

In addition to his teaching activities, Patricius Schlager devoted himself to researching the history of the Cologne and Saxon Franciscan provinces and published numerous scientific publications, several biographies in The Catholic Encyclopedia and pastoral writings. In 1907 he founded the contributions to the history of the Saxon Franciscan Province of the Holy Cross (from 1914 Franciscan Studies ) and took over the editorial management. He himself published numerous articles on the history of orders and churches, also in historical journals such as the annals of the Historical Association for the Lower Rhine .
