Patrick Balkany (born August 16, 1948 in Neuilly-sur-Seine ) is a French politician of the Les Républicains (UMP).

Life

As a member of parliament, he represented the Hauts-de-Seine department in the National Assembly from 1988 to 1997 and again from 2002 to 2017. From 1983 to 1995 and then from 2001 he was mayor of Levallois-Perret . He was last confirmed in his office in 2014 for the term until 2020.

Balkany is married to Isabelle Smadja and has two children.

Since 2013, Balkany and his wife and assistant Isabelle have been investigated for tax fraud, money laundering and corruption, among other things. In October 2019, he was sentenced in two judgments for tax evasion to four years imprisonment with an immediate prison term and then to five years imprisonment for money laundering and tax fraud. The court considered it proven that the Balkany couple had tried to hide at least 13 million euros from the tax authorities in a complex network of foreign companies. After five months in prison, Patrick Balkany was released from prison for poor health.
