Patrick Brulez (born October 31, 1950 in Cholet ) is a former French football player .

Career

Brulez first played in his youth at a club called the ESSP from Cholet and at that time achieved inclusion in regional youth selections. He moved with the SO Cholet to the most important club in the city and from there, although he had rejected a career as a professional years earlier, to SCO Angers in 1970 . After doing his military service, he moved up to the first division team in 1972 and established himself as a regular player during his first season. During the 1973/74 season he received an invitation to the French U-21 selection , which he had to cancel, so that he was represented by his teammate Éric Bedouet . At club level, he became increasingly a top performer of the team and was nicknamed Papi (Grandpa). The greatest success from this time was a fourth place in the table in 1974, which was followed, however, by two relegations in 1976 and 1978, which, however, led to the direct rise.

In 1980 Brulez left Angers after eight years in the first team and switched to league rivals FC Tours , which at almost 30 years of age was the player's first change in professional business. At Tours he was also given a regular position and also the office of captain. Although he achieved relegation twice, he decided in 1982 to move to the second division, where he wanted to help Stade Rennes in promotion. This actually succeeded, even if the player no longer appeared as a regular player after the jump into the first division. At the end of the 1983/84 season, Brulez decided at the age of 33 after 285 first division games with three goals and 88 second division games with one goal to end his career. Apart from working as a coach at an amateur club in the 1990s, he then retired from football.
