Patrick De Deckker

Patrick De Deckker (born November 15, 1948 ) is an Australian paleontologist . He is a professor at the Australian National University in Canberra .

Life

De Deckker studied geology and paleontology at Macquarie University with a bachelor's degree in 1971 and a master's degree in 1976, was on stays abroad at the University of Newcastle and Leuven and received his PhD in 1981 from the University of Adelaide . In 2002 he also received a D. Sc. He then went to the Australian National University (except for the period 1985 to 1988 when he was doing research at Monash University ), where he was lecturer in 1988 and reader in 1992. From 2002 to 2004 he was head of the geology faculty and in 2003 he became a professor.

He analyzes fossil environmental conditions using microfossils, especially ostracods and especially in the Cenozoic . This applies to both marine and terrestrial habitats (inland waters). De Deckker uses methods of geochemistry and isotope analysis. He led several marine expeditions.

He is a corresponding member of the Paleontological Society . He was editor of Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology . He received the Order of Australia Medal in 2007, the Verco Medal in 1992 and the Mawson Medal in 2010. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of South Australia.
