Patrick Johnson (athlete)
Patrick Johnson (born September 26, 1972 on a boat near Cairns ) is an Australian sprinter .
The son of an Irish father lost his mother, an Aboriginal , at the age of 18 months and grew up on fishing boats. It was not until 1996, during his studies at the Australian National University , that he discovered running and ran the 100 m in 10.47 s straight away . By 2000 he improved this mark to 10.10 s.
In 2003 he was the first Australian to run the 100-meter course in Mito in 9.93 s, setting the current Oceania record.
However, he has so far been denied major successes at international level. At the World Athletics Championships in Athens in 1997 , at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney and at the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis, he failed in qualifying. It wasn't until the 2005 World Championships that he made it into a final and was sixth in the 200 m .
Patrick Johnson is 1.78 m and weighs 71 kg. He speaks Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian and worked for the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for a while.
