Patrick Leahy (athlete)

Patrick Leahy ( Patrick Joseph "Pat" Leahy ; born May 20, 1877 in Charleville , Ireland , † 1926 in the USA ) was an Irish athlete who competed in the Olympic Games for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland .

Leahy grew up as one of seven brothers in the country between Cork and Limerick . All the brothers were excellent athletes. In 1901 Patrick Leahy led the world best list in the high jump with 1.95 meters , in 1898 he is said to have jumped 1.96 meters. In 1902, 1904, 1905 and 1908 his brother Con Leahy topped the world high jump list and in 1910 his brother Timothy . Patrick Leahy was also world best in the long jump in 1902 with 7.29 meters and in the triple jump in 1900 and 1901.

At the 1900 Olympic Games , Patrick Leahy competed in three jumping disciplines. He finished second in the high jump with 1.78 meters, third in the long jump with 6.95 meters, and in the triple jump he finished fourth with 13.36 meters. At the Olympic Games in 1908 , Patrick Leahy took part in the high jump again. With 1.77 meters he missed the final, in which his brother Con was second.

In 1909 Con and Patrick Leahy emigrated to the United States.
