Patrick Mallet

Patrick Mallet (* 1970 in Geneva ) is a French-speaking Swiss comic artist .

Life

Mallet was born in Geneva, where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1990 . He then went to Paris , where he studied at the École supérieure d'arts graphiques . He worked first as a graphic artist , then as an illustrator for youth literature.

For the plot of his comic stories he mostly relies on existing literature from the 18th and 19th centuries. The trilogy Les plombs de Venise ( The Leaves of Venice ) is loosely based on the autobiographical book The Story of My Escape from the Prisons of the Republic of Venice by Casanova . In the series Achab he invents the life story of Captain Ahab before the plot of Moby Dick . In Vathek he tells the story of Caliph Vathek based on the novel of the same name by William Beckford . The horror story Smarra ou les Démons de la nuit is based on the novel of the same name by Charles Nodier . Several of his books are colored by Laurence Croix.

In 2008 he won the Prix ​​Rodolphe Töpffer pour la jeune bande dessinée genevoise with Premières chasses , the second volume in the Achab series .
