Patrick de Chaworth
Patrick de Chaworth (* around 1220, † 1258 ) was an Anglo-Norman nobleman.
Patrick came from the Chaworth family . He was a son of Pain de Chaworth and his wife Gundred de la Ferte . When his father died, he was still a minor when he became the heir to his estates, including Kempsford in Gloucestershire . Around 1240 he married Hawise de Londres , heiress to Ogmore Castle in South Wales. Hawise was heir to the South Welsh rule Kidwelly , which at that time was occupied by the Welsh Lords of Deheubarth .
Patrick de Chaworth was able to win back Kidwelly Castle from the Welsh Lord Maredudd ap Rhys in 1243 or 1244 . In 1245 he supported the campaign of King Heinrich III. against the Welsh princes . During the campaign of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd through South Wales after the Battle of Cymerau , he was able to repel a Welsh attack on Kidwelly Castle in 1258. That same year he served as Royal Seneschal of Carmarthen Castle . He ambushed and killed Welsh negotiators who were on their way to see him in Emlyn . In revenge, a Welsh army attacked Chaworth and his troops at Cilgerran, not far from Cardigan . The Anglo-Normans suffered a defeat in the battle, and Chaworth was also killed.
From his marriage to Hawise de Londres he had several children:
- Payn de Chaworth
- Hervey de Chaworth
- Patrick de Chaworth ⚭ Isabella de Beauchamp
- Eva de Chaworth ⚭ Robert de Tibetot
