Patriot Rail
Patriot Rail is an American holding company in the rail transport sector based in Jacksonville . In addition to the operation of various railway companies, other rail-related services are also offered. In addition, the logistics in some smaller ports are ensured.
history
The company was founded in 2005 by Gary O. Marino (formerly RailAmerica ) in Boca Raton to acquire and operate railway companies.
The first acquisition in 2006 was the Tennessee Southern Railroad from Shortlines Inc. 2007, the second company followed with the Rarus Railway. This was given back its well-known name Butte, Anaconda and Pacific Railway after the acquisition . In 2008, Utah Central and Louisiana and North West were acquired.
In 2008 the Sacramento Valley Railroad and in 2009 the Temple and Central Texas Railway were founded to develop industrial parks in McClellan Park, California and Temple, Texas. In 2008 an attempt was made to take over the Sierra Northern Railroad and Sierra Railroad . This business failed. Patriot Rail had to pay around $ 52.7 million in damages for breaches of contract.
From 2010 to 2015 she operated the Piedmont and Northern Railroad on behalf of the State of North Carolina .
The largest acquisition by Patriot Rail took place at the end of 2010. Six railway companies with around 800 kilometers of routes were taken over from the timber industry group Weyerhaeuser . In addition, other fixed assets required for operation, such as 28 locomotives, 300 own and 2,500 leased freight cars, land, offices and workshops were taken over.
In May 2012 the Kingman Terminal Railroad was founded to operate an industrial park in Kingman (Arizona).
In May 2012, Patriot Rail was also acquired by the infrastructure company SteelRiver Infrastructure Partners. This was accompanied by a change in management in the company. From June 2012 John E. Fenton served as Chief Executive Officer and from December 2012 Dennis D. Marzec served as President. In addition, the company headquarters was moved to Jacksonville. After the takeover, the operation of ports by the companies Seaonus / Portus Patriot Rail was assigned.
In 2015, Georgia Northeastern Railroad was acquired together with SR Transportation Holdings (Steel River subsidiary).
In August 2019, a consortium made up of First State Investments (part of Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group ) and MidRail ( Gilbert H. Lamphere (formerly Prospect Group : MidSouth , Illinois Central )) acquired the company after Steel River had been buying it since the beginning of the year sought.
