Gilbert H. Lamphere

Gilbert Hicks Lamphere (born 1953 ) is an American investment banker and manager. He was Chairman of the Board of the Illinois Central Railroad .

Life

Lamphere studied from 1966 to 1974 at Princeton University and at Harvard Business School with a Master of Business Administration degree .

Act

From 1976 to 1981 he worked for Morgan Stanley & Co. in the mergers and acquisitions division.

He then started working for Louis Marx Jr. and his investment firms ( Prospect Group and Noel Group). At the end of 1989 Lamphere took over the management of the Prospect Group. He was its President from November 1989 to October 1991. He was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of this company until May 1994. At the same time, he was Chairman and CEO of the Noel Group from November 1991 to June 1994 and sat on the supervisory boards of various subsidiaries.

From January 1994 to December 1999, he held senior positions for the Fremont Group . From January 1998 he works independently with Lamphere Capital Management.

In 2006 he founded a private equity company with Raj K. Gupta FlatWorld Capital . In April 2016, he and Gupta acquired a stake in MidRail, a company that operates rail companies. In August 2019, MidRail participated in the acquisition of Patriot Rail together with First State Investments .

During the time at Prospect, the subsidiary Illinois Central Railroad was sold . At Illinois Central he was Chairman of the Board from 1993 to 1998, while the young E. Hunter Harrison served as CEO and President. After the takeover of Illinois Central by the Canadian National Railway (CN), he was a member of the board of directors of CN from 1998 to December 2005.

From January 2000 to July 2007, Lamphere served on the board of directors of Florida East Coast Industries , and from January 2007 to May 2015 on the board of directors of CSX Corporation .

From October 2011 to May 2013, Lamphere was Chairman of the Board at Las Vegas Railway Express , a company that intends to offer rail passenger services between Southern California and Las Vegas. He then sat on the company's supervisory board until summer 2018.

Varia

Gilbert Lamphere's first marriage was from 1981 to Louise Woolworth Lamphere. There were five children from this marriage. In 2013 he married Martha Janet O'Brien (born 1971).

Gilbert Lamphere was a trustee of the NYC Parks Foundation and chaired the boards of Deerfield Academy, Nightingale-Bamford School, and Hamlin School.
