Patriotas de Córdoba FC
Patriotas de Córdoba FC is a football club from the city of Córdoba in the Mexican state of Veracruz . The home venue is the Estadio Rafael Murillo Vidal .
history
The association was founded in the spring of 2009 by Juan Antonio Lavín Torres, who was also the mayor of the city of Cordoba at the time. In order to give the club a starting place in the fourth-class Tercera Division, Lavín acquired the license from the neighboring club CF Caballeros de Córdoba , which had been represented in the Tercera Division in previous years.
Lavín had the vision of putting together a team that consisted exclusively of players who were born or at least grew up in Córdoba in order to achieve the greatest possible identification of the club with the city. In fact, the team that made their debut in the 2009/10 season consisted mostly of local players. Of the 27-man squad, 24 were from Cordoba and one each from Orizaba , Amatlán and Chocaman .
The team, made up almost exclusively of local players, finished the 2009/10 season in their regional group 2 in third place and qualified for the play-off championship final, where they came off 3: 3 and 2: 2 in round one could only prevail on penalties (6: 5) against the Conejos de Tuxpan . After relatively clear victories against the Chapulineros de Oaxaca (3: 0 and 1: 1) and the Corsarios de Campeche (0: 0 and 6: 3), the Patriotas needed another win on penalties in the quarter-finals against CF Galeana Morelos (3: 2) after there had been no winner in the previous 180 minutes (1: 2 and 1: 0). With subsequent successes against the Potros de la UAEM (2: 1 and 2: 2) and América Manzanillo (2: 2 and 2: 1), the team immediately won the championship at the end of their first season and thus made it to the third class Segunda División , in which the Patriotas have been represented ever since.
