Patriot polka

The Patrioten Polka is a polka by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 274). The work was performed for the first time on March 19, 1863 in the Sofienbad Hall in Vienna.

Remarks

On February 25, 1863, Johann Strauss had achieved his long-awaited goal of being appointed Imperial Ball Music Director. Out of gratitude, he organized a charity event under the motto Patriotic Festival for the benefit of a local military hospital. In addition to the Strauss band, a military band also played there. Due to the national character of the festival, the Battle of the Nations , which was victorious for Austria, was commemorated. With this in mind, a composition by Philipp Jakob Riotte (1776–1856), Die Schlacht bey Leipzig, was performed. Johann Strauss, who was in poor health at the time, composed the Patriot Polka for this festival , which also explains the origin of the title name.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 12 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
