from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Patroclus von Bourges or Patroclus von Colombier (* around 500; † around 576 near Néris-les-Bains ; Auvergne ) was a priest and hermit who was active in the northern Auvergne in central France and venerated as a saint .

Life

Gregory of Tours (around 538 – around 594) reports in his hagiographic writings that Patroclus lived at the court of the Merovingian king Childebert I and was ordained a deacon and then a priest around the year 540 by Bishop Arcadius von Bourges . He later retired to a hermitage near La Celle . In Colombier he founded a monastery, to which his bones were brought after his death, which were venerated as relics for a long time .

Adoration

Several churches in the Auvergne have his patronage ; the first name Patrocle was common in the region until the 19th century. His feast day is November 17 or 18, but the centuries-old pilgrimage to his grave came to a standstill in the 1970s.
