Paul Babendererde (historian)

Paul Babendererde (born September 19, 1878 in Rostock , † May 30, 1953 in Gehlsdorf ) was a German post office clerk, historian and author.

Life

After graduating from high school in Rostock in 1897, Babendererde enrolled as a stud. phil. at the University of Rostock . After only one semester, he joined the Reichspost in 1898 , where he passed the administrative examination in 1906 and became a postal intern in Charlottenburg in 1907 . He also sat in on the University of Berlin. He then took up his studies again and obtained his doctorate at the University of Konigsberg with a dissertation on the subject of intelligence and travel of the Teutonic Order in 1400 for Dr. phil. Babendererde later left the postal service as a retired postal director. D. off. He was the mayor of Gehlsdorf near Rostock, which was incorporated into Rostock in 1934. He then worked as a laborer in the Rostock city archive. After the Second World War he was dismissed from the public service.

Babendererde wrote mainly Mecklenburgica, both as historical writings and in novel form. His estate is kept in the Rostock city archive.
