Paul Jones (* 24. February 1942 in Portsmouth , Hampshire as Paul Pond ) is an English singer, actor and harmonica player.

Life

Jones became known in the 1960s as the singer of the pop group Manfred Mann . Jones had joined the Mann-Hugg Blues Brothers group in 1962, which was renamed Manfred Mann in 1963. After leaving in 1966, he temporarily pursued a solo career as a singer. In Great Britain , he had two hits with High Time , which reached number 4 on the singles chart in 1966, and I've Been A Bad Bad Boy , number 5 in 1967. He also worked in film and musical productions, such as in the 1967 British film Privilege, and was heard with Alexis Korner at Rockpalast ( The Party Album , 1978). Paul Jones has been the singer of the Blues Band since the 1980s, and since 1991 a member of The Manfreds , a band made up of former members of the former Manfred Mann Band. This also includes Mike d'Abo , who once replaced him as singer with Manfred Mann and with whom he still appears occasionally today.

In 2005 Jones was on the album Piece by Piece by British singer Katie Melua , and in 2009 on the album Sessions by the Nick Vernier Band . In 2007 two DVDs with Dave Kelly and Paul Jones were released ( An Evening with Paul Jones & Dave Kelly [live] Vol.1 & 2). In 2009 he was a guest musician on Joe Bonamassa's DVD and CD Live from the Royal Albert Hall . He was awarded the 2011 Lifetime Achievement of the British Blues Awards honored. At the beginning of 2015 he presented the solo album Suddenly I Like It , on which guest musicians include Joe Bonamassa and Jools Holland .

Jones has hosted a blues show on BBC Radio 2 since 2007.
