Joe Bonamassa
Joseph Leonard "Joe" Bonamassa (* 8. May 1977 in New Hartford , New York ) is an American blues - and blues rock - guitarist , singer , composer and lyricist .
Beginnings
Joe Bonamassa was born on May 8, 1977 in New Hartford, where his father owned a guitar business. He began playing the guitar at the age of four with a small-scale Chiquita guitar. When he was twelve years old, he played with BB King . At the age of 14 he was invited to attend an event organized by the musical instrument manufacturer Fender . During this trip on the west coast he met Berry Oakley Jr. know the son of the Allman Brothers bassist. Bonamassa and Oakley founded together with Erin Davis, son of Miles Davis , and Waylon Krieger, son of Robby Krieger , the band Bloodline, with whom they released an album on EMI , which included the two chart singles Stone Cold Hearted and Dixie Peach .
Solo career
His first album, A New Day Yesterday, was released in 2000 and was produced by Tom Dowd . He played in a trio with Kenny Kramme on drums and Eric Czar on bass. After a concert tour to promote the album, Bonamassa and his fellow musicians went back to the studio in 2002 to record the album So It's Like That , produced by Clif Magness . The second album is rock-heavy than the rest of his works, reaching number one in the Billboard - Blues -charts. During the tour for the album, the demand for a traditional blues album grew, whereupon the band released the next album Blues Deluxe in 2003, which was by the way the "Year of the Blues" . The album contains nine cover versions of well-known blues classics as well as three original compositions by Bonamassa. This album also reached number one on the Billboard Blues chart. Bonamassa's album Had to Cry Today goes more in the direction of the blues rock of a Rory Gallagher , whose avowed fan Bonamassa is (which was shown in the earlier years by the fact that he started every concert with the piece Cradle Rock ). However, it also contains elements from country and rockabilly . Bonamassa and his band toured again with BB King and Kenny Wayne Shepherd for King's 80th birthday tour. At the end of 2005, shortly before the recordings for the album You and Me, Bonamassa separated from his bandmates without giving any more precise reasons. For the recordings he hired numerous studio musicians such as Jason Bonham on drums.
Gibson's Les Paul is one of his favorite instruments . He also plays models of the Gibson ES-335 and the Telecaster and Stratocaster from Fender .
On March 10, 2012 Bonamassa got his first gold record for selling 100,000 DVDs of his concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Joe Bonamassa plays guitar alongside Steve Morse in Jon Lord's re-recording of Concerto for Group and Orchestra , which was released on September 28, 2012.
Black Country Communion
In 2010, Bonamassa joined forces with Glenn Hughes , Jason Bonham and Derek Sherinian to form the group Black Country Communion ; the jointly produced album Black Country Communion was released on September 16, 2010. The simply titled 2 album was released on June 10, 2011, the subsequent European tour was recorded on CD with Live Over Europe . The last studio album, Afterglow , was released on October 26, 2012. Bonamassa stated in an interview with Premierguitar magazine in March 2013 that his involvement in Black Country Communion had ended. He is happy that he is no longer involved and satisfied with what he has left behind with the three albums that were made with his participation. The band broke up shortly thereafter. In 2016 the band reunited and produced the album BCCIV .
Other Projects
Since 2013 Joe Bonamassa toured several times with Beth Hart and released several albums together.
Private
Bonamassa was in a relationship with the Scottish singer Sandi Thom , as he announced in the booklet of his CD Driving Towards the Daylight , released in May 2012, at the thanks.
