Paul Luif

Paul Luif (born May 7, 1948 in Mattersburg ) is an Austrian university lecturer in political science. Between 1974 and 1980 he was a university assistant at the Senate Institute for Political Science at the University of Salzburg. From 1980 to the end of July 2013 he was a Senior Fellow at the Austrian Institute for International Politics in Vienna. He is also a lecturer at the University of Vienna, Institute for Political Science. His research focuses on the European Union, in particular the internal and external security of the EU and the foreign policy of smaller countries in Europe.

Life

Paul Luif was born on May 7, 1948 in Mattersburg in Burgenland. Between 1954 and 1966 he attended elementary school and secondary school in Mattersburg. From 1966 to 1972 he studied law and sociology at the University of Vienna . In 1971 he received his doctorate as Dr. jur. From 1972 to 1974 post-graduate studies followed at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS), Political Science Department. From 1974 to 1980 Luif was an assistant at the Senate Institute for Political Science in the field of international politics at the University of Salzburg. From 1980 to 2013 he was a research assistant at the Austrian Institute for International Politics in Vienna, where he was responsible for the European Union, with a special focus on the EU's common foreign and security policy. In May 1997 he obtained his habilitation in the entire field of political science at the University of Salzburg. Luif also works as a lecturer at the University of Vienna.
