Paul Ostertag

Paul Ostertag (born April 23, 1864 in Basel ; † May 8, 1938 in Winterthur ) was a Swiss mechanical engineer .

Ostertag was born into a large family of craftsmen in Basel and went to school there. From 1884 to 1887 he studied at the Eidgenössisches Polytechnikum Zürich and then worked as a designer at Thyssen & Cie in Mülheim an der Ruhr . In 1890 he went to Lisbon as a construction engineer for the German Export Bank . There he met his future wife Pauline Willi on August 1, 1981, with whom he fathered five children.

In 1893 he returned to Switzerland and was appointed professor of mechanical engineering at the cantonal technical center in Winterthur . There he was responsible for the creation of a machine laboratory, in which he also taught. From 1928 to 1934 he was director of the technical center before 1934 retired .

Paul Ostertag died on May 8, 1938 after a short, serious illness in Winterthur.
