Paul Segers

Paul Antoine Marie Norbert Segers (born October 12, 1870 in Antwerp , Antwerp Province , Belgium ; † February 2, 1946 ibid) was a Belgian politician of the Catholic Party .

biography

After attending school, he studied law and worked as a lawyer after gaining a doctorate in law .

He began his political career as a candidate for the Catholic Party in 1900, when he was elected for the first time as a member of the Chamber of Deputies , in which he represented the interests of the Antwerp arrondissement until 1925 .

In 1912 Prime Minister Charles de Broqueville appointed him Minister for Shipping, Post and Telegraphy in his cabinet. After a cabinet reshuffle, he became Minister of Railways in 1914 and held these functions until the end of de Broqueville's tenure on June 1, 1918.

For his political merits he was awarded the honorary title of Minister of State on November 21, 1918 . After leaving the Chamber of Deputies, he was co-opted as a member of the Senate in 1925 .
