Paul Vanuxem

Paul Fidèle Félicien Vanuxem (born July 22, 1904 in Bully-les-Mines , † January 7, 1979 in Paris ) was a French general.

Life

Vanuxem studied for a short time philosophy , but then opted for a military career.

During the Second World War , Vanuxem fought in the Battle of Monte Cassino .

At the end of World War II, Vanuxem held the rank of majors. Vanuxem was used there almost permanently during the Indochina War. After the defeat at Dien Bien Phu , Vanuxem commanded the evacuation of French troops from North Vietnam. He was then promoted to Brigadier General, and in 1958 to Général de division . Because of his support for the OAS , he was expelled from the army in 1961 and imprisoned soon after. In 1963 he was released and charges against him dropped.
