Paul White (conductor)

Paul Taylor White (born August 22, 1895 in Bangor , Maine , † May 31, 1973 in Henrietta , New York ) was an American composer, violinist, conductor and music teacher.

White studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and was a student of George Chadwick and Eugène Ysaÿe . The music patron George Eastman became aware of him and brought him to the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra . He studied conducting with Eugène Aynsley Goossens at the Eastman School of Music , where he taught from 1928 to 1965, first as a violin teacher and later as a professor of ensemble playing.

From 1929 to 1965 White was the conductor of the Rochester Civic Orchestra . He has also worked as a guest conductor with the Boston Pops Orchestra , the New York Philharmonic Orchestra , the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra . He composed orchestral and vocal works as well as chamber music.
