Paulette Schwartzmann

Paulette Schwartzmann (* officially: November 19, 1894 in Kamjanez-Podilskyj as Pecia Schwartzmann ; † probably 1953 in Buenos Aires ) was a Franco-Argentine chess player .

There is uncertainty about their exact life dates. When she was naturalized, Schwartzmann gave the French authorities her birthday on November 19, 1894 in Kamjanez-Podilskyj and the first name Pecia. Other sources name Riga as the place of birth. In Buenos Aires she gave the first name Paula. The name Paulette was used most often in common parlance, including in chess reporting. The last name was also spelled Schwartzman on occasion.

Schwartzmann emigrated to France, where she won the French women's championship in 1927, 1928, 1929, 1931, 1933, 1935 and 1938 and thus the French title in 1933, 1935 and 1938 after obtaining French citizenship on December 21, 1932 Single champion.

Under the flag of her new home France, she played at the 1933 World Chess Championship for women in Folkestone, where she only achieved sixth out of seven places with 3.5 points from 12 games. Six years later she got 9 points from 19 games at the 1939 World Chess Championship for women and the 9th – 10th. Space. Since the Second World War broke out in Europe during the World Cup in 1939 , she stayed in Argentina. There she won the Argentine women's championship in 1948, 1949, 1950 and 1952 . Schwartzmann probably died in Buenos Aires in 1953.
