The Paulick candelabra was designed in the early 1950s by Richard Paulick for furnishing the Stalinallee , today's Karl-Marx-Allee to Frankfurter Allee and Proskauer Straße in Berlin.

Design and construction of the candelabra 1952–1955

From 1950, what was then Stalinallee was to be developed into a representative showcase street in the eastern part of Berlin. To this end, well-known architects were involved and suggestions for urban planning in the Soviet Union were studied.

Appropriate street lighting was planned alongside the high-rise buildings. Richard Paulick , as head of department at the Institute for Construction in Berlin, was responsible for the organization of the major construction site. He designed for the image of Stalin Allee formative two- and four-armed street lights that the OWA candelabra of Albert Speer for the east-west axis are similar from the year 1936th

A total of 215 Paulick candelabra were built, which consist of a reinforced concrete mast with attached light fittings.

Replacement of the candelabra 2008–2009

After around 50 years, the reinforced concrete poles of the Paulick candelabra in particular showed severe damage from corroded steel reinforcement and concrete flaking.

In a Senate bill from June 2005, it is stated that the originally intended reconstruction of the Paulick candelabra is not feasible because the candelabra is far more damaged than was assumed in the relatively rough cost estimate made in 2002.

A press release from the Senate Department for Urban Development on December 21, 2007 shows that almost 4 million euros were made available for the renewal of the Paulick candelabra in Karl-Marx-Allee. The contract was awarded in August 2007. Construction work to replace the candelabra was scheduled to begin in January 2008 and completion in May 2009. Over a length of 2.3 km, a total of 205 candelabra with two light bodies and ten candelabra with four light bodies were to be dismantled and replaced with true-to-shape new buildings at the existing locations.
