Pauline Sunfly

Pauline (Nangalo) Sunfly (born June 29, 1957 near Balgo , Western Australia ) is an Aboriginal artist who works and lives in Balgo.

Life

Pauline Sunfly was born in the hospital of the Balgo Hills Mission Station as the daughter of an artist family, her father Sunfly Tjampitjin and her mother Bai Bai Napangardi . She went to school in this Aboriginal mission station , about 20 kilometers from Balgo. She heard dreamtime stories (Tjukurrpa) from her parents and learned to paint by observing her father's painting techniques. Pauline Sunfly had auxiliary work to do at the mission station. After living in Fitzroy Crossing , Broome and Alice Springs for a while, she now lives with her young family in the Aboriginal settlement of Balgo.

Sunfly produces graphic works and paintings in the dot painting style . Her artistic themes are: creation story, creation of two snakes, dingo , emu , two ancestors of monitor lizards , kingfisher ants and signs of body painting . Her first solo exhibition took place in 2000; her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
