Paulus Sladek

Paulus Sladek (born January 28, 1908 in Trzebnica as Friedrich Sladek ; † November 2, 2002 in Zwiesel ) was a German theologian and Augustinian hermit .

Life

He was born into a Czech-German family. He studied at the high school in Česká Lípa , where Augustinians from the local monastery taught. He was involved in the Staffelstein Association (together with another later Augustinian, P. Augustine Schubert).

In 1926 he joined the Augustinian Order in the Prague monastery in the small town. Here he took the religious name Paul. In 1931 he received a priesthood and worked for a time in the monastery Českolipské. He then moved to Prague, lived in a monastery in the small town and devoted himself to the pastoral care of students. He was a preacher for German-speaking students.

After 1945 he left for Germany. A year later he was involved in founding the Ackermann community . He spent the rest of his life in Germany. In 1990 he took part in the restoration of the Augustinian monastery in Malá Strana near the Church of St. Tomas and on this occasion gave a Czech sermon. He lived in the monastery in Zwiesel, where he died and was buried in 2002.
