Pavel Schnabel (* 1946 in Olomouc , Czechoslovakia ) is a German filmmaker and cameraman

The filmmaker, who grew up in Liberec in northern Bohemia , studied at the Film and Television Academy in Prague (FAMU). His first film as a cameraman was Back from Outer Space from 1959.

He left the country in 1968 after the invasion of the Warsaw Pact armies and has lived and worked as a freelance director and cameraman in the Federal Republic of Germany ever since.

Pavel Schnabel has received several awards for his films, including a. with the Federal Film Prize and the "Special Merit" from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , Hollywood . For now - after so many years he received the Adolf Grimme Prize with Gold in 1982 (together with Harald Lüders )
