Pavement Management System

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Pavement Management System ( PMS for short ) describes a database that is used for the systematic recording of all information of a road network necessary for road maintenance . For this purpose, the status characteristics (data) recorded in the location are transferred to an IT system and evaluated. Based on the assumed / calculated development of the road condition, road maintenance measures or renovation measures can be selected, while at the same time determining financial requirements taking into account the selected or implemented measures for a specified period of time. The asset value of the existing road pavement is also taken into account. The aim of this system is to optimize road maintenance from an economic, economic and technical point of view and to provide decision support for further measures.

Pavement management systems have been used in Germany since 1999 and are used there for the maintenance of federal , country and district roads . Use at the municipal level is not yet widespread, but many municipalities are striving for it as part of the introduction of the double- entry system.
