Pavol Demeš (* 1956) is a former Slovak foreign minister and has been director of the German Marshall Fund office in Bratislava since 2002 .

Life

He studied at the Comenius University in Bratislava, at the Charles University in Prague and spent an academic year at the University of South Alabama in Mobile . In 1989, the bio-medic became a key figure in the transformation process in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Pavol Demeš was foreign minister for one year from 1991, then foreign policy advisor to Kováč from 1993 to 1997. He participated in the election of Vladimír Mečiar and in founding the Otpor movement in Serbia. Pavol Demeš also plays a role for NGOs and is also a passionate photographer. He came into contact with Pora in 2004 when he attended a colloquium in Ukraine !, one of the leading groups of the Orange Revolution , which he then advised.

Awards

  • In 1998 Pavol Demeš was awarded the "EU-US Democracy and Civil Society Award".
  • He received the USAID Democracy and Governance Award in 1999
  • In 2000 he received the Democracy and Civil Society Award .
  • In 2009 he received the SEEMO - South East Europe Media Organization Human Rights Award
