Pavona is a genus of hard corals (Scleractinia). Pavona species live in tropical coral reefs from Australia to the Philippines . Most species of the genus grow irregularly or they resemble cacti in their growth form. Like most other hard corals, Pavona specieslivein a symbiotic relationship with small algae ( zooxanthellae ), which provide the corals with nutrients.
