PayCard

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The PayCard , an electronic wallet , was a joint project between Deutsche Telekom , Deutsche Bahn and the Association of German Transport Companies .

The PayCard was developed by Deutsche Telekom, originally it was only supposed to be a rechargeable phone card . In order to increase the attractiveness of the chip card , it was decided to expand its possible uses. Thanks to the cooperation with Deutsche Bahn and the Association of German Transport Companies, when the card was launched in autumn 1996, it was possible in several major cities to make cashless payments at ticket machines.

The PayCard could be reloaded on all Deutsche Telekom card phones. After entering a PIN, the customer selected an amount between 20 DM and 200 DM (later up to 400 DM), which should be booked on his PayCard. The amount was then debited from the bank account using direct debit . Since Deutsche Telekom did not succeed in opening up further areas of application, while the banks and savings banks ensured that the GeldKarte was spread among their customers, the PayCard could not gain acceptance. In 2000, the PayCard system was sold to card.etc AG, which has since discontinued the PayCard business.

The Paycard was used in significant numbers until the end of 2011 as a carrier medium for subscription tickets in the Rhein-Ruhr transport association and in the Rhein-Sieg transport association . The electronic exchange was not used here, however.
