Payr sign (angiology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Payr sign is a clinical sign of deep vein thrombosis . It is named after the doctor Erwin Payr (1871–1946).

Implementation and evaluation

The examiner presses the sole of the foot of the affected leg with his fingers. A plantar side ( plantar ) Pressure pain, in particular in pressure on the foot-inside ( medial ) may be an expression of a deep vein thrombosis.

As with other clinical tests for deep vein thrombosis, the specificity of the Payr sign is high, but the sensitivity is low. If a leg vein thrombosis is suspected, this is detected or excluded using color-coded Doppler sonography .

Other clinical signs of deep vein thrombosis are Meyer's sign and Homans' sign .
