The Peach State Jamboree was an American country show broadcast by WJAT of Swainsboro , Georgia .

history

As early as 1954, WJAT had the first edition of the Barn Dance Show format with the WJAT Jamboree . Regular ensembles included Cleve Warnock , the Lonesome Pine Boys, Aunt Idabelle, the Dixie Troubadors, the Hometown Sweethearts, Clem Hayshecker, JB Wasden, and the Four Leaf Clover Boys.

WJAT was owned by Jim Denny and country star Webb Pierce . The Peach State Jamborees first show aired on the evening of February 9, 1955. Each issue was broadcast live on WJAT from the Nancy Auditorium in Swainsboro from 8:15 pm to midnight. The show was hosted by Johnny Bailes, who also worked as a DJ at WJAT and produced the jamboree together with Jack Wisely, the station's director.

The station's ensemble consisted primarily of regional musicians such as Jody Joiner, Melvin Sapp, Lyneve Wheeler, Johnny Elgin, Dee Thompson and others. Few of these musicians achieved greater fame, such as Ginny Wright , who had the hit Are You Mine with Tom Tall a year earlier . Carl Tanner was also pursuing a recording career at this time. Comedy was brought to the show by the duo Clem Hayshecker & Red Boatright. The house band was the WJAT band.

In 1958 the Peach State Jamboree was discontinued. The last show was held at the Nancy Auditorium on October 25th. On New Years Eve 1960, Clyde Beavers reorganized the show. Beavers had previously also been a DJ at WJAT, but switched to WBRO in Waynesboro , Georgia , which had also been bought by Jim Denny and Webb Pierce shortly before. With the Peach State Jamborees New Years Concert at the Nancy Auditorium, the show returned once a month for some time. At that time, musicians like Johnny Ferg, Chuck Goddard, Jaybee Wasden and also Johnny Bailes and Clyde Beavers were members of the show.
