Peacock Palace was a pop band from Berlin with roots in the protest folk of Bob Dylan and the California flower power movement of the late 1960s.

history

The group was founded in 1991 by the producer and drummer NHOAH , who had already celebrated successes with David Hasselhoff , René Tinner , Romy Haag and Jayne County & The Electric Chairs, and his partner Petra Jansen, who was already active in other Berlin bands. Nhoah was a composer and producer, Petra Jansen was a singer and wrote the lyrics. The band reached the top 20 of the album charts with their first CD and number 2 in the top ten with their hit “Like a Snake”. With the accompanying video, Peacock Palace was the first German band to get massive support through MTV and thus also to reach an international audience. In addition to their own tours, they played as the opening act for Alison Moyet, Mink Deville and Manfred Man and accompanied The Pogues on two tours in Germany. The third CD Gift - under the new management of Mark Chung (ex-Einstürzende Neubauten) - was released in the USA in 1996, but could not get anywhere. At the height of the techno wave in Germany, there hardly seemed to be any niches for handmade pop and rock music. The band broke up in 1999.
