Pedaja (Bible)

Pedaja ( Hebrew פְּדָיָה pədājāh ) was the name of several people mentioned in the Old Testament .

Grandfather of King Jojakim

The mother of King Jojakim was the daughter of Pedalja from Ruma ( 2 Kings 23.36  EU ).

Son of Jehoiachins

In 1 Chronicles 3: 18–19 LUT , a list of the descendants of David mentions  a Pedaja as the son of Jehoiachin , the last king of Judah who was captured by Nebuchadnezzar . The names of the sons of Pedaiah are Zerubbabel and Shimei.

Man from the Manasseh tribe

In 1st Chronicle 27,20  LUT a Joël from the tribe of Manasseh is named as the leader of an army division at the time of King David. His father was called Pedaja.

Involved in the reconstruction of the city wall

In Nehemia 3:25  LUT there is a report of a Pedaja, the son of Parosh, who was involved in the rebuilding of the city wall of Jerusalem .

Participant in the reading of the law by Ezra

Nehemiah 8 tells of the reading of the law of Moses by Ezra . Ezra was standing on a wooden pulpit that had been specially built for it. In Nehemia 8,4  LUT a number of people are named who stood next to him. The first-named person on the left is a Pedaja.

Man from the tribe of Benjamin

Nehemiah 11 gives a list of people from the tribes of Judah and Benjamin who repopulated the destroyed Jerusalem. In Nehemia 11.7  LUT there will Sallu called from the root Benjamin, a Pedaja one of its ancestors.
