Pedro Malo de Villavicencio (baptized May 23, 1673 in Seville , Spain ; † April 1, 1744 in Mexico City ) was a Spanish lawyer and colonial administrator who temporarily served as Viceroy of New Spain.

Life

Pedro Malo came from Seville and studied in Spain Law . He went to America around 1700.

In 1710 he worked at the Real Audiencia of Guadalajara and married María Gertrudis Castro Gutiérrez del Cueto, with whom he had 14 children.

He was transferred to the Real Audiencia of Mexico , of which he was the senior oidor in 1741. When the viceroy Pedro de Castro y Figueroa died in August 1741, no successor appointed by the king was available. Therefore, according to the rules of the Spanish colonial empire, the Audiencia, chaired by Pedro Malo, took over the government of the viceroyalty.

The term of office lasted until November 1742, when the new Viceroy Pedro Cebrián y Agustín , sent from Spain, arrived in Mexico. During the government of the Audiencia, a major fire destroyed large parts of Mexico City.

After the handover of authority, the Audiencia worked again to the viceroy. Pedro Malo died two years later, in April 1744. His wife survived him by 20 years.
