Pedro Ortega Díaz

Pedro Ortega Díaz (born December 18, 1914 in Rio Caribe , † February 3, 2006 ) was a Venezuelan politician and President of the Communist Party of Venezuela .

Díaz studied law and after graduating worked as a lawyer. He taught labor law at the university for several years and served as legal advisor to the communist-oriented union CUTV for a long time. From 1937 to 1939 he belonged to the National Democratic Party (PDN) and joined the Communist Party, which was illegal at the time. He participated in the underground resistance against the dictatorship of Marcos Pérez Jiménez and Rómulo Betancourt .
