Pedro Tamen

Pedro Mario Alles Tamen (born December 1, 1934 in Lisbon , Portugal) is an important contemporary Portuguese poet and translator.

Life

Pedro Tamen studied law and also worked temporarily as a teacher and journalist. From 1987 to 1990 he was President of the Portuguese PEN . From 1975 to 2000 he was also a member of the Presidium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He was also the founder of the Centro Cultural do Cinema in 1956.

His first volume of poetry was published in 1956 with the title Poema para todos os dias . Since then, many more volumes of poetry have been created. Some of his poems have also been translated into German. In total, his work has been translated into a good 10 languages. In 2011 he was awarded the Prémio Literário Casino da Póvoa for his collection of poems O Livro do Sapateiro , published in 2010 .

He translated numerous authors into Portuguese, such as B. Gustave Flaubert , Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Marcel Proust .
