Pedro de Ávila y Zúñiga

Pedro de Ávila y Zúñiga (* 1489 in Villafranca de la Sierra , † 1579 in Ávila ) was Charles V's ambassador to Edward VI in 1554 . in England.

Life

His father was entitled Conde del Risco y Señor de las Navas y Villafranca ; he died in 1504 and Pedro de Ávila bequeathed his title. His younger brother was Don Luis de Ávila y Zúñiga. Ávila married María Enríquez de Córdoba in 1524 and had five children with her.

Pedro de Ávila was a confidante of Charles V , from whom he received the newly created Marquesado de Las Navas in 1533 as thanks for his services. Since then he has been the permanent Alférez Mayor of the city of Ávila , where he hosted Charles V in 1534. The Kingdom of Castile was decimated by the Comuneros uprising . In 1534, the Cortes' assembly of estates decided to conduct a census (encabezamiento) . The result was recorded on April 9, 1551 in a bundle of over 1000 pages, signed by Pedro de Ávila as royal bookkeeper, archived in the Biblioteca Nacional and again by Manuel Sánchez Mariana, head of the Servicio de Manuscritos, Raros e Incunables in 2009 found.

During one of the Italian wars (1536-1538) Pedro de Ávila led the Cortes de Toledo . Charles V appointed him mayordomo for his son Philip II. He accompanied him on his trip to Flanders in 1549. In 1553, Pedro de Ávila brought Philip II's wedding gift to Mary I of England
