Peeter Vähi (born May 18, 1955 in Tartu , Estonia ) is an Estonian composer .

During his studies he was interested in the music of the baroque as well as electronic and oriental music. He completed his studies at the Estonian Music Academy (focus on composition) in Tallinn in 1980.

Since graduating, Peeter Vähi has written music programs for Radio Estonia and freelance record production; He was also a music producer at the Estonian state concert institute Eesti Kontsert and artistic director of several international music festivals: the festival of oriental music “Orient”, the festival “Glasperlenspiel”, the Arvo Pärt festival and the Estonian cultural festival in Germany. He is a board member of the Estonian Composers' Association and the Estonian Buddhist Society (1992-2005) and a member of the Estonian Academic Orientalist Society.

Characteristics of Vähi's music are a generous stylistic versatility, simple but interesting sounds, skilful use of exotic musical instruments and electronic devices as well as a wealth of moods that range from the philosophical and thoughtful to the rigor of the baroque style. His most important works are the oratorios "Mary Magdalene Gospel" and "In the Mystical Land of Kaydara", the "White Concerto" for guitar and orchestra, "Chant of the Celestial Lake" for flute and orchestra, "Fata Morgana" for piano ( published by Eres Edition), "Antarctic Concerto" for guitar and orchestra, "To His Holiness" for oboe and chamber orchestra, "Concerto of Light and Shadow" for violin and orchestra, "Sounds of the silver moon", "The way to the heart of Asia "(Collaboration with Asian musicians)," Mystical Uniting "and" To His Highness Salvador D "for chamber ensemble, the" Concerto Piccolo "for harpsichord and chamber orchestra.
