Bearing game

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Peilickespiel is a board game . It was widespread in central Germany until around 1830/1840.

The game, also known as the game of pelicks , board games or beilickes , was played with brass stones on a game board. The game board was called a bilkentafel , pelick or shooting board . The game pieces were shot on this board. It was a game of skill and in the broadest sense might have been similar to the game of billiards .

history

Johann Amos Comenius depicted the game as a board game in his work Orbis sensualium pictus 1658. The game was expressly forbidden in the Osterwiecker Market Ordinance of 1690. In a report about the Krug in Prester from 1750 it is mentioned that the people on the Piliken played for beer. It was common in inns in the Magdeburg region until 1830/40 . At this time, its distribution is also given for some villages near Leipzig . The game is also mentioned for Graefenhainichen .

The vague assumption is made that the name of the game is related to Hans Peilicke, who was Mayor of Leipzig in 1595 .
