A sounding ship is a work ship that is used to measure water depths. The depth of the water is recorded and mapped by echo sounder .

task

Since shallows pose a considerable risk for shipping, the topography of shallow fairways (e.g. rivers) must be checked regularly. For this purpose, three-dimensional maps of the water floor are created with sounding ships in order to be able to react in good time to hydromorphological changes.
