Peine del Viento
The Peine del Viento XV ( Spanish for ' Wind Comb XV', in Basque Haizearen Orrazia ), also called Peine del Viento or El Peine del Viento , incorrectly also in the plural Peine de los Vientos , is an ensemble of sculptures by Eduardo Chillida based on the architectural work by the Basque architect Luis Peña Ganchegui . This work is one of his most important and famous.
The three steel sculptures are embedded in the rocks above the water at the western end of La Concha Bay in San Sebastián and are even washed around by higher waves.
The three parts, each weighing ten tons, were approached by helicopter. Rails were built over the water on site, on which the “combs” were brought into the correct position and anchored. In 1977 the work was completed. In the vicinity of the sculptures there are holes in the ground, through which an air or water rush comes with every wave hitting the coast.
