Peisidike (daughter of Pelias)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peisidike ( ancient Greek Πεισιδίκη ) is a daughter of King Pelias of Iolkos and Anaxibia in Greek mythology . According to another tradition, her mother is called Phylomache .

Peisidike and all her sisters with the exception of Alcestis were deceived by the sorceress Medea, who had come to Iolkos with Jason, by demonstrating the apparent rejuvenation of an old ram and persuaded them to murder their father Pelias, dismember them and boil his remains in an iron kettle so that he - as they were led to believe by Medea - could rise again rejuvenated through the arts of the sorceress. It was only when the expectation was not fulfilled and Pelias remained dead that Peisidike and her sisters realized that they had been misled and fled the country while Jason seized Iolkos.
