The Pelzerhäuser in Pelzerstraße 11 and 12

The Pelzer houses are two buildings on Pelzerstraße in the old town of Emden . The two houses are among the oldest buildings in the city and are the only ones in the old town that survived the heavy bombing of Emden on September 6, 1944. Its architectural style gives an impression of what the old town of Emden looked like before the bombing - it was shaped by buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries.

The Pelzerhäuser now house a branch of the East Frisian State Museum . The houses are on Pelzerstrasse 11 and 12.

  • Pelzerhaus 11 : Three-storey residential building built in 1909 based on the previous building from the 16th century with re-used original parts.
  • Pelzerhaus 12 : Built in the second half of the 16th century. Now only the three-storey brick facade with volute gable remains. The associated house was replaced by a new building in 1983.

Temporary exhibitions take place in the Pelzer houses, and there is also a café there.
