Gonnelien Rothenberger

Gonnelien Rothenberger-Gordijn (born June 5, 1968 in Weert ) is a Dutch dressage rider .

At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta , she and her husband Sven won the silver medal behind the victorious German team on Dondolo with the Dutch team .

Career

Rothenberger-Gordijn is the daughter of the Dutch stallion owner Adri Gordijn († 2011). She started riding when she was 8 years old. At the age of 11 she was promoted by the well-known Grand Prix judge Jan Peeters. He is the trainer of her European Championship pony Baboen. Gonnelien was later trained by the former Dutch national coach Henk van Bergen. In 1989 she came to Germany to train with Conrad Schumacher and Ellen Bontje at the Neuhof estate. The Rothenberger couple trained each other until 2001. Their children, Sanneke , Sönke and Semmieke Rothenberger, have successfully followed in their parents' footsteps.
